A/N: What you see above is not my art! It's something I made thanks to this wonderful website called Picrew (if you have OC designs to make check it out!). That's how I imagined Yool. Any thoughts? Which OC should I show you next time?
Apart from that, it's Christmas time! That also means I'll soon be on holidays and will have a bit more time to write. I'll surely upload another chapter by the end of December or for the new year. Would you rather just have the next chapter or a bonus one? I have no idea what the latter could be about and that means it could turn out to be really short or extremely long but I'll do my best if you guys choose that one. Please vote either here or at the end of the chapter (to see if you resist to my little cliffhanger hehe).
I let out a sigh of relief. This battle has finally ended. I woke up to Kim Chul's shouting yet more rested than I have been in a long time. A new exhaustion still takes over as soon as all of our enemies fall dead. Now all I want to do is curl up in my bed — or even better: on Jin-Woo's lap again — and close my eyes, even if it's just for five minutes. But there's something I need to do before that.
A loud, repetitive banging makes me flinch. I look up to see Iron continuously slamming his sledgehammer against the corpse of the dungeon boss.
"Hey! Hey! Stop it already!" Jin-Woo yells. His shadow freezes and the Monarch sighs. "Take it easy."
"Even as a shadow, he seems to be lacking some neurons," I laugh.
"I worry about the future." He shakes his head, dejected.
Iron doesn't seem to understand. He turns towards Igris, who sighs and follows his master. Not having gained the reaction he wanted, he stares at two little knights. Together, they let out a silent shout of victory, throwing their arms up in the air.
I smile, amused by their behavior, then turn towards the hunters who stare at us with wide eyes. "Let's go back home."
"Go back?" Go Myung-Hwan repeats, dumbfounded.
A blue gate appears on the side of the clearing. It's a beautiful electric blue that whirrs in the morning light, projecting moving shades on the dirty, blood stained snow. Never before have I been so relieved to see a portal.
"The gate has opened," Jin-Woo points out, sticking his thumb out towards it.
"We can finally go home!" Yoon Ki-Joong shouts, tears of joy streaming down his face.
The two other male hunters flop to the ground with relief. Park and Song-I jump up to grab each other's hand and laugh excitedly. Warmth spreads in my chest as I watch them bouncing around happily. We are finally free to go home and escape the constant chill of this frozen place.
"You can go back first. Jin-Woo and I still have something to do here," I declare.
"But Unnie, what will you do if the gate closes again?" Song-I asks.
I shake my head and pat her head. "We'll be back before that. Just wait for us outside, okay? We'll drive you home as soon as we're done."
She gives in reluctantly and they leave, shooting us some worried glances before the blue hues of the gate swallow them, leading them back into our world. I don't wait to see them disappear to extract the skills lying around.
